A staggering 39% of manufacturing companies responding in a recent Deloitte survey reported experiencing a cybersecurity breach in the past 12 months. And over one-third of these companies lost between $1 million and $10 million as a result of the attack. These attacks can wreak havoc upon businesses in terms of lost productivity, ransomware payments, and intellectual property being made public to the competition. Phishing, pharming and social engineering make up the majority of the breaches, according to the report.
The explosion of IoT in manufacturing has made processes much more efficient, but all of that interconnectivity has brought much more susceptibility to attacks along with it. Companies need to make sure they are searching for the top cybersecurity professionals to hire to shore up their networks, as well as investing in training current employees and adding additional resources in their technology departments. As more and more devices and machines are connected to the internet every single day, the cybersecurity threat will only continue to grow.
