Prime Advantage has invited industry experts to share their insights on the present and future of manufacturing success. In this post, Kari Bigot of ALTOUR discusses how to tackle travel expenses in today’s business world.
The “modern business traveler” – new terminology being used to describe today’s business traveler or what the travel industry used to commonly refer to as the “road warriors.” But, as we all know, there’s a lot more changes happening in travel than simple updates to terminology. Organizations of all sizes are being challenged with a dynamically growing and changing segment of doing business – travel. And, within travel comes costs, liability, and instability. As travel (and entertainment) typically sits within the top three expenditures for a business, it should be an area of focus for senior management; however, often times (for a variety of reasons) travel gets pushed to the “back burner.” More often, we see this scenario playing out in small and midsize enterprises where the lack of leverage for negotiating with suppliers, coupled with a smaller travel program size, tends to impede the strength and/or objectives of a successful travel policy.
